Last-minute liquor and cigarettes in Terminal 1

Airside in Terminal 1, Duty Free Shop sits just past security and passport control, and most flyers treat it as a quick stop for spirits and tobacco rather than real shopping. Shelves lean heavily toward standard international liquor brands and cartons of cigarettes, with some local Zambian options, but nothing like the depth you’d see at Johannesburg or Addis. Expect prices to beat downtown hotel bars a bit, but not undercut Lusaka malls by much.

Opening hours roughly track the long-haul banks, so it’s usually open for the Emirates and Qatar waves plus regional flights through most of the day. Stock can look thin on quieter afternoons, especially on popular whiskies and duty-free-sized chocolates. One Lusaka guide specifically says it’s smarter to buy gifts in town at places like Manda Hill or Eastpark, as duty-free markups run noticeably higher on souvenirs.

There is a small rack of local souvenirs—think Zambian-branded T-shirts, basic crafts, and keyrings—useful only if you ran out of time in the city. Regulars who pass through LUN several times a year report they buy their main liquor and gifts in town and treat this shop as a backup. Expect very ordinary travel-retail candy and perfume; nothing rare, and not much beyond core lines.

Tip: If you want a specific bottle or more interesting souvenirs, shop in Lusaka city first and use Duty Free Shop in T1 only to plug last-minute gaps before boarding.
