Gate-side books in T1 when your phone battery is dying

This simple Bookstore in Terminal 1 sits airside after security, so you can grab a paperback on the walk to your gate instead of hunting for an outlet. It’s one of the few spots at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport that sells actual books rather than just glossy magazines and souvenirs, and it mainly targets T1 traffic on regional flights.

The shelves lean hard into travel-friendly reads: compact novels, business titles, and some regional Africa-focused books that actually mention Zambia by name. Stock isn’t huge, but you can usually find at least a couple of English-language paperbacks under the equivalent of about USD 15, plus some children’s books that keep a kid busy for a two-hour hop to Johannesburg.

Hours roughly track the main departure waves in Terminal 1, so it’s generally open from early-morning flights through the last evening departures, though off-peak mid‑day lulls can mean the lights go off for a bit. Payment usually works with both local kwacha and major cards, which helps if you’ve already burned through your remaining ZMW at the café near security.

You won’t see rare titles or fancy stationery here, just straightforward books and a few magazines near the front racks. Use it as a last-stop backup when you’ve got 20–30 minutes before boarding and want something more engaging than the in‑flight magazine on your LUN departure.
