15 minutes from Heathrow to Paddington on Heathrow Express
The Heathrow Express runs non-stop between London Heathrow Airport and London Paddington station in about 15 minutes from T2/3 and around 21 minutes from T5, making it the fastest rail option into central London. Trains connect directly from the station below Terminals T2 and T3, with a separate station at T5; T4 passengers transfer via the free Heathrow Connect-style shuttle to T2/3.
Trains usually run every 15 minutes during the day, with reduced service early morning and late evening, so you rarely wait long on the platform. Services typically start shortly after 05:00 and run until just before 00:00, but check the day’s timetable if you have a very early or very late flight from T2, T3, T4, or T5.
Advance tickets can drop below £10 one-way in off-peak windows, but standard on-the-day fares are significantly higher than the Tube from the same terminals. Children under a specific age band often ride free with a paying adult, and contactless and Oyster are accepted for some fare types between Heathrow and Paddington, though not all ticket offers apply to tap-in/tap-out.
On board, expect modern carriages with luggage racks at the doors and overhead shelves, plus power outlets at many seats. Standard and First Class are in different coaches, with First usually at the Paddington-facing end of the train, so check the platform displays before you board at T2/3 or T5. There are toilets on the train, which helps after a long-haul arrival into any Heathrow terminal.
Pay attention to terminal specifics: the Heathrow Express does not run directly to T4, so anyone landing at T4 needs to take the free shuttle train to Heathrow Central (T2/3) before boarding. From Paddington, you get connections to the Bakerloo, Circle, District, and Elizabeth lines, plus national rail services heading west.
Practical tip: if you’re landing at T2 or T3 and staying near a Tube station rather than Paddington, compare the Heathrow Express fare against a Piccadilly line tap-in; the time saving can be under 10 minutes once you add platform walks at both ends.
