Champagne and oysters in T5 instead of another grab-and-go box

In Heathrow Terminal 5, Fortnum & Mason Bar is the rare spot where you can sit at a marble counter and order champagne with oysters or a salt beef open sandwich instead of the usual fast-casual burger. It’s airside in T5, so you’re fine once you’re through security, and it leans into “in-flight picnic” as much as dine-in, with food you can comfortably take on board.

Menu highlights skew classic: chilled champagne by the glass, still and sparkling wines, proper cocktails, oysters on ice, a salt beef open sandwich, and even a half lobster if you want something more substantial. Prices run above Pret and below a serious London restaurant; think champagne at airport-markup glass prices and bar snacks that feel like a splurge, not a random £6 sandwich.

The bar setup works well if you’re solo or in a pair and parked near T5’s main shopping and seating hub, usually a short walk from most A-gates and a bit farther from the B and C satellite gates via the transit train. Order the salt beef open sandwich if you want something filling that still eats neatly at the counter or in your seat; oysters and half lobster are better if you’ve got at least 40–50 minutes before boarding.

Service pace typically matches a standard T5 dwell: fast enough for a 60–90 minute layover, slower if you turn it into a full pre-flight meal with wine, cocktails, and seafood. There aren’t many seats, so during the morning long-haul bank and early evening European departures, you may wait a few minutes for a bar stool while other spots in T5 still have open tables.

Tip: If you plan to build an in-flight picnic with champagne and the salt beef sandwich, ask them to time the final pour and packaging about 20 minutes before your T5 boarding time so you’re not racing to the gate with open glasses.
