Starbucks

★ 2 $$$$

Power sockets and laptops first, coffee second

By 6:00am in Gatwick North, Starbucks looks more like a coworking space than a café. Delayed easyJet passengers camp here with laptops, cables and carry-ons, using it as a base for 3–4 hour holds. The coffee is the familiar chain standard at about £3–£4 for a latte, but most people are really paying for a chair, a table and hopefully a plug.

This is in the North Terminal, airside after security, near the main concourse. Expect the queue to snake into the walkway between roughly 5:00–7:00am, especially in school holidays. One Reddit regular says it’s still faster than some other coffee spots, but if the line is visibly out into the corridor, locals often pivot to Costa a few doors away.

Prices sit at typical UK Starbucks levels: filter coffee around £2.50, espresso drinks about £3–£4, and basic pastries in the £2–£3 range. With a 2/5 average rating, complaints cluster around drinks that don’t match city-branch quality, especially custom orders with extra shots, alternative milks or unusual syrups. If you’re fussy about temperature or foam, spell it out clearly and check before you walk off.

Power outlets are patchy. Some tables have built-in sockets, others have nothing within reach. Regulars do a quick lap before ordering, spotting free plugs along the wall or at the high tables, then queue only once they know they can plug in. Long-haul laptop campers usually buy a large drink and maybe a pastry, then sit for hours during rolling delay texts.

Watch out for morning congestion and school-holiday crush; lines of 20–30 people aren’t unusual before 8:00am. Mobile ordering, when the app shows this store as available, can cut that down, but it’s not always switched on. If you just need caffeine and your flight boards within 30 minutes, check the visible queue length and compare it with the much shorter line at nearby Costa.

Tip: Land a table with a socket before you join the queue; if you can’t see one from where you’re standing, assume you’ll be running on battery.
