JAL Sakura Lounge

T1

KIX regulars now treat the Sakura Lounge as “the old one.”

In Terminal 1 at Kansai (KIX), the JAL Sakura Lounge sits on the oneworld side as the legacy option, now overshadowed by the newer KIX Lounge Premium that opened in March 2025. Longtime JAL elites on FlyerTalk talk about Sakura almost historically, using it as the baseline to explain how much nicer the new Premium space feels. If your boarding pass gets you into both, this is the second choice, not the first.

The lounge sits in T1 with oneworld access rules: you need a same-day JAL or oneworld ticket plus status or a qualifying premium cabin. Reviews describe it as “decent enough,” which lines up with how KIX lounges get tagged overall as “not really memorable.” Think standard JAL-brand comfort rather than a destination you plan a three-hour layover around.

Food runs to typical JAL lounge staples: rice dishes, curry on good days, small hot bites, and packaged snacks that rotate during the day. Expect soft drinks, beer machines, and basic spirits rather than anything rare or high-end; pricing is baked into your ticket or status, since walk-up paid access is not a common route here. If you care about upgraded drink lists or barista coffee, that’s part of what regulars now chase at KIX Lounge Premium instead.

Seating in Sakura follows the old-school template with rows of armchairs and small side tables, more like an early-2010s business lounge than a modern coworking space. Power outlets exist but aren’t at every seat, so charging a laptop and phone at the same time can take some hunting during the evening bank of JAL departures. Wi‑Fi is free and generally stable enough for email and streaming a short show before a late-night flight to Tokyo or beyond.

FlyerTalk regulars say that after March 27, 2025, JAL elites are mostly being shifted to KIX Lounge Premium and now talk about that newer space when planning 2–3 hour connections. The fact they rarely reference the physical Sakura Lounge anymore tells you how they rank it: acceptable, familiar, but not a priority stop before JL or other oneworld departures from T1. If you’re short on time, they’ll often just grab a quick bite in the terminal instead.

Practical tip: If your oneworld status or cabin grants a choice between Sakura and KIX Lounge Premium in Terminal 1, ask at check‑in or the lounge desk which one your flight is using today and head straight to Premium; keep Sakura as the backup when the newer space is crowded or temporarily restricted.
