Metered taxis line up outside Kaohsiung Airport’s arrivals hall

The Taxi Waiting Area at Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH) sits directly outside the arrivals level serving both Terminal D and Terminal I, so you walk out with bags and follow the taxi signs for less than 2–3 minutes. This is a standard city taxi queue, not a private car stand, and all cabs use government-regulated meters starting at a fixed base fare in New Taiwan Dollars.

From the Taxi Waiting Area, a typical ride into central Kaohsiung Station runs about 20–30 minutes depending on traffic along Zhongshan 4th Road, with fares usually in the low hundreds of TWD. You pay the driver in cash, and some cars also accept local contactless cards; credit cards are hit-or-miss, so treat them as a bonus, not a plan. There’s no separate airport surcharge listed on the current city tariff boards.

Signage in the Taxi Waiting Area is in both Chinese and English, with clear placards mounted at curbside explaining basic fare rules and an approximate fare range to downtown Kaohsiung and Zuoying HSR. If you’re heading farther, like to Tainan or Pingtung, ask the driver for a rough total before you get in so the meter plus any highway tolls don’t surprise you at the end of a 45–60 minute run.

The queue itself runs as a single, first-come line, and staff sometimes direct passengers into taxis during peak bank arrivals when multiple flights land within the same 30–40 minute window. If a dispatcher is present, tell them “Kaohsiung Station” or show your hotel name in Chinese on your phone; drivers are used to this and it speeds things up when you reach the front of the line.

The practical move: before exiting to the Taxi Waiting Area, grab airport Wi‑Fi in Terminal D or I and pin your destination on Google Maps so you can watch the route and sanity-check that the meter matches roughly 20–30 minutes to central Kaohsiung under normal traffic.
