Gate-side pizza and pasta in T1: Il Maestro
Il Maestro sits airside in Terminal T1 at Kos International Airport "Ippokratis" (KGS), just past security and before the main gate cluster. It runs as a casual Italian spot, so you can sit down for a plate of pasta or grab a quick slice while watching the departure boards. Being post-security, it works for both Schengen and non-Schengen departures from T1.
Menu focus is standard Italian: Margherita and pepperoni-style pizzas, basic tomato or cream-based pastas, and a few salads to break up the carbs. Expect airport pricing, with mains typically in the mid-teens in euros, a bit higher if you add extras like prosciutto or seafood. Portions lean medium rather than huge, so one pizza generally feeds one hungry person rather than two.
Drinks run from bottled water and soft drinks up to beer and house wine by the glass, usually priced a few euros above what you’d pay in town. Coffee is the safer bet if you’re flying early; an espresso or cappuccino here still costs less than most in-flight drink menus, and you can get it in under 10 minutes when the terminal is quiet. Ask at the counter if you’re short on time; they’ll usually prioritize simple orders.
Service speed matches T1 traffic: in peak July–August departures, a made-to-order pizza or pasta can take 20–25 minutes from ticket to table. In shoulder season, you may be in and out in 30 minutes total. If your boarding pass shows a bus gate, pad your schedule, since walks to the far stands from Il Maestro can add another 5–10 minutes.
Tip: If your connection or check-in buffer is tight (under 45 minutes to boarding at KGS T1), stick to ready-made slices or pre-made sandwiches at Il Maestro rather than full plated meals.
