Extended Car Park

Long-stay

Daily rates run lower at the Extended Car Park

If you’re leaving your car at Kigali International Airport (KGL) for several days, the Extended Car Park is the long-stay option attached to Terminal T1. It sits farther from the main entrance than the short-stay bays, but the pricing is aimed at trips measured in days, not hours. Expect to walk a few extra minutes compared with the main forecourt parking, but you trade that distance for a better deal on multi-day stays.

This car park is built around long-stay use, so factor in at least 10–15 minutes from locking your car to reaching check-in in T1. It’s on airport grounds, so you’re not dealing with shuttles or off-site lots. That makes it practical if you’re flying out early morning or landing late at night, since you stay within the secure airport perimeter from car to terminal.

Pricing is typically structured by calendar day, not by hour, which starts to pay off from around the third or fourth day compared with short-stay. It works well for week‑long trips or longer regional assignments out of Kigali. If you’re just dropping in for a meeting or a single overnight, the regular car park in front of T1 usually pencils out better.

There’s no detailed bay‑by‑bay data published, but expect open‑air surface parking with standard marked spaces, not a covered garage. The airport’s footprint is compact, so distances stay manageable even at the far end of the Extended Car Park. You still walk straight toward the main T1 façade and then into departures, with no extra checkpoints beyond the usual terminal security.

Tip: add an extra 15 minutes to your usual airport arrival time if you plan to park here, so you’re not rushing the walk from the Extended Car Park to T1 check-in.
