Concourse C Guide at Jacksonville Airport (JAX)

Terminal Overview

Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) is built around a single main terminal with two active concourses: A and C. Concourse C is one of the two airside wings you’ll use after clearing TSA, and it primarily handles domestic flights (with international-style processing typically handled at the airport level rather than in a separate “international terminal”). If you’re flying American or Southwest out of Jacksonville, Concourse C is very often where you’ll end up.

The overall experience at JAX is straightforward: arrivals are on Level 1 (baggage claim and ground transportation) and departures/ticketing are on Level 2. After security, both concourses connect via the airside mezzanine area, so Concourse C feels like part of one continuous, easy-to-navigate terminal. Concourse B is currently closed and slated for rebuilding when passenger demand grows, so the airport’s active gates are concentrated into the A and C sides.

Airlines & Destinations

  • American Airlines (including American Eagle) – a major presence in Concourse C, with service to key hubs that connect you onward across the U.S. and beyond.
  • Southwest Airlines – strong domestic coverage with multiple daily departures on popular leisure and business routes.
  • Frontier Airlines – typically focuses on price-friendly domestic service (routes can be seasonal).
  • Avelo Airlines – leisure-oriented routes that may vary by season.
  • Sun Country Airlines – seasonal service (availability varies across the year).

In terms of alliances, American is part of oneworld. Southwest, Frontier, Avelo, and Sun Country are not alliance members. If you’re connecting to a SkyTeam or Star Alliance itinerary at JAX, those airlines are more commonly associated with Concourse A, but you can still connect airside because the concourses are linked after security.

Layout & Navigation

Concourse C is a single pier with gates numbered C1 through C10. The airport’s layout is simple: you check in upstairs (Level 2), clear security, and then follow signs to Concourse C. JAX uses multiple checkpoints: there are security entrances at each concourse area and TSA screening includes TSA PreCheck availability (look for the posted lane signage on the day you fly).

  • Gate flow: Once you’re in Concourse C, everything is on one main walking corridor with gates branching off.
  • Typical walking times: From the Concourse C security entrance to mid-concourse gates is usually a 3–7 minute walk; reaching the far end is commonly under 10 minutes at a normal pace.
  • Connecting to Concourse A: You can walk between Concourse C and Concourse A airside via the mezzanine connector—no shuttle or train. Plan roughly 5–12 minutes depending on your starting gate and crowd levels.

If you’re arriving at C and departing from A (or vice versa), you generally do not need to re-clear security as long as you remain in the secure area. Just follow the overhead signs for the opposite concourse.

Amenities & Services

Concourse C has the essentials you want close to your gate: a cluster of food and beverage options, convenience snacks, and seating distributed along the corridor. One standout feature on this side is a multi-airline passenger club located behind the airside food court area—useful if you don’t have access to an airline-specific lounge.

  • Lounges: Multi-airline passenger club in Concourse C (airside). If you’re comparing, Concourse A is where you’ll find the Delta Sky Club.
  • Food & shopping: Expect quick-service dining, grab-and-go drinks, and small retail for travel essentials. For more variety, you can also walk to the central airside mezzanine area between concourses.
  • Business needs: Look for seating pods and high-top counters near dining areas, which are usually the best bet for spreading out a laptop.
  • Family amenities: JAX is family-friendly overall; if you need extra space, the gate areas near the ends of the concourse are often less congested than the central food court zone.
  • Accessibility: The single-level concourse design, elevators/escalators to the mezzanine, and accessible restrooms make it manageable with wheelchairs or strollers. If you need assistance, request wheelchair support through your airline before arrival.

Pre-security, the main terminal includes services like information desks, shops and restaurants, and airport facilities (including a USO on Level 1). If you arrive early, you can still clear security and use Concourse C seating rather than waiting landside.

Practical Tips

  • Best area for a long layover: Head toward the central airside area near the food court for the most dining choices, then reposition closer to your gate about 20–30 minutes before boarding.
  • Quietest places to rest: The ends of the concourse near the lowest-traffic gates (often away from the main dining cluster) tend to be calmer—walk a few minutes past the busiest gate groups and you’ll usually find emptier rows.
  • Power outlets: Your best odds are near newer seating clusters and around dining areas (look under armrests or at floor-level posts). If outlets are taken, check the seats closest to gate podiums where airlines sometimes have extra charging points.
  • Wi-Fi: JAX typically offers airport Wi-Fi throughout the terminal and concourses; connect to the airport network and follow the on-screen prompts. If you’re on a tight deadline, test your connection early and relocate closer to a less-crowded gate area if speeds dip.
