The Club JAX

Concourse A · A1 Open · 04:30-21:30 3k sqft 52 seats showers Day pass $40

August 5, 2024 at 19:00, The Club JAX shut for good

Gate A1 in Concourse A used to hide The Club JAX, a 3,000 sq ft Priority Pass lounge that regular JAX flyers treated like a pit stop: hot breakfast, quick shower, then straight to boarding. It sat post-security in the Main terminal, basically in the middle of the concourse, easy to walk past if you didn’t notice the small doorway by A1.

Hours ran 04:30–21:30 daily, with a $40 day pass and access via Priority Pass, LoungeKey, Diners Club and a few bank programs. Local coverage mentioned AAA discounts off the $40 sticker price, which pulled in a lot of once-a-year travelers who happened to know it existed. During part of COVID, hours reportedly dropped to roughly 06:00–18:00 with more limited operations.

Capacity topped out around 52 people, and reviews call the lounge “very small” more than once. Points With a Crew clocked six “Signature Zones” jammed into that footprint: a tiny Relax Zone with only three chairs, a small Kids Zone with iPads, a Productivity Zone with desks, plus Replenish, Resting, and Refresh areas. In practice it felt like a chain of cubbies instead of one open room.

Food swung between solid and frustrating. One TripAdvisor reviewer said they waited over an hour for hot food because the buffet had been cleared out, while a FlyerTalk report from another day called out a “full buffet” and friendly staff. During COVID-era service, the buffet switched to staff-served, which helped with hygiene but slowed things down during the morning bank.

Drinks and connectivity were straightforward. The bar covered standard beer, wine, and basic mixed drinks at no extra charge, with stronger pours and premiums sometimes upcharge depending on program rules. Wi‑Fi details were printed clearly inside the lounge, so connecting didn’t require fighting an airport captive portal or hunting for a password.

Showers set this lounge apart at a small regional airport. Both restrooms doubled as shower rooms, so there were effectively two combined toilet/shower spaces for the whole lounge. TripAdvisor reviewers warned to “plan ahead”: if both showers were in use, you could end up in a line just to use the bathroom, not just to rinse off after an overnight flight.

Crowding became the defining problem. LoungeReview quotes a visit where staff took names at the door and texted guests when space opened; one traveler bailed after waiting an hour. During social distancing, half the seats were blocked, which made the 52-person cap feel even tighter and pushed more people back into the concourse.

Regulars built their routine around these quirks. One FlyerTalk poster said they passed through JAX at least twice a year and always stopped in, typically on early flights when breakfast and showers were freshly available. Others dropped their name on the waitlist, walked a lap of Concourse A, then came back closer to boarding time rather than standing in the cramped entry.

For future trips, plan on life without it: terminal expansion killed The Club JAX as of 5 August 2024, so now build your JAX buffer around gate A1 dining and restrooms instead of banking on a last-minute lounge shower.
