Souvenir Shop

Gate area in Main Terminal feels bare, but this is it

Hilo’s Main terminal has almost no retail, and the Souvenir Shop is basically the only dedicated gift spot after check-in. Expect a tiny footprint, closer to a corner kiosk than a full store. Prices skew higher than in Hilo town, as you’d expect for airport last-minute buys. If you want proper Big Island coffee or mac nuts, locals say do that run at KTA or Walmart in town before heading to ITO.

Hours at ITO tend to track the day’s flight schedule, so don’t assume late-night shopping if your Hawaiian or Southwest departure is after 8 p.m. The shop usually opens ahead of the first Main terminal departures, then winds down once the last interisland flights clear. You’ll mainly see generic “Hawaii” logos, basic T-shirts, small keychains, and fridge magnets here, not deep Big Island–specific merchandise.

Regulars who fly out of Hilo multiple times a year treat this Souvenir Shop as a true backup plan. They pick up only small filler items: a $5–$10 keychain, a last-minute T-shirt in common sizes, or a postcard set when they forgot to buy in town. Don’t expect specialty volcano or Mauna Kea gear; reviews pointing out ITO has “no shops” aren’t far off in spirit.

Plan your shopping in Hilo proper, then use this Souvenir Shop just to patch any gaps. Last tip: if you care about selection or price, finish your gift run at least 1–2 hours before you head to the airport, not at the gate.
