Star Alliance Golds at IST now funnel into Miles&Smiles, not an “Elite Lounge.”

At Istanbul Airport’s Main international terminal, Turkish Airlines markets an “Elite Lounge,” but in practice your Star Alliance Gold or Miles&Smiles Elite card sends you to the Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles Lounge, not a separate third space. Access works like this: on an international economy ticket out of IST, Star Alliance Gold and Miles&Smiles Elite/Elite Plus use the Miles&Smiles Lounge in the Main terminal, typically via the escalators just past passport control and security. Business-class passengers, even without status, use the Turkish Airlines Business Lounge, which runs as a separate space with its own entrance and stricter guest rules.

One key rule from FlyerTalk: the Miles&Smiles Lounge allows Gold members to bring guests, while the Business Lounge generally does not permit guests when access is based only on a business-class ticket. That difference matters if you’re on a single business ticket with a partner on economy and only one of you has status.

Watch out for outdated app names and old trip reports that still call the status space the “Elite Lounge,” leading some people to wander the Main terminal for 10–15 minutes hunting for a third lounge that doesn’t exist anymore. One practical tip: head straight for the Miles&Smiles entrance if you’re Star Gold in economy, and stop asking staff for an “Elite Lounge” by name—you’ll get where you need to go faster.
