Water after security in T1 costs several times town prices
Snack Bar in Terminal 1 sits airside after security, and most people use it for one thing: bottled water before boarding. Travellers report that a single small bottle here can run several times the supermarket price in Hurghada, but outside water often gets taken at security, so this ends up as the backup plan.
Think kiosk, not café: Snack Bar is a stand-up counter in T1 with no real seating, mainly fridges of soft drinks and shelves of crisps and chocolate bars. Expect maybe a few brands of chips, a couple of chocolate names, and standard sodas rather than any hot food or sandwiches. If you want an actual meal, sort that in town or at your hotel before you get to HRG.
Prices are the main complaint. One Facebook group regular called the chocolate and chips “very expensive,” and others echo that sentiment for all packaged snacks. Compared with a Hurghada supermarket, you’re paying airport mark-up on every Mars bar, Pringles tube, and cola can. With a 3 out of 5 type reputation, expectations should stay low and functional.
Stock is basic: you’ll usually find 0.5L and 1.5L water bottles, a few crisps brands, and mainstream chocolate bars. Soft drinks are mostly international labels in cans or 500ml bottles. Selection beyond that is hit-or-miss, and there’s little for anyone needing fresh food or specific dietary options; reviews mention almost nothing resembling a real meal.
Regulars often bring crisps and snacks from their resort and only buy water at Snack Bar just before boarding, especially for flights of 4–5 hours or more where airline service can feel sparse. Some stands in T1 are reported as cash-only or reluctant with change, so keeping small Egyptian pound notes or €5 notes helps. Practical tip: clear security, price the water at the nearest Snack Bar, then buy two bottles in one go so you don’t have to queue again near your gate.
