HDN’s The Way Station is where skiers actually sit down to eat
At Yampa Valley Airport, The Way Station is the rare bar-and-grill setup that serves a real plated meal and a proper drink before those winter Steamboat flights. It’s past security in the small terminal, so you’re already through screening before you grab a seat and order. Figure on spending airport-typical prices, roughly in the mid-teens to low $20s for a burger-and-drink type stop instead of surviving on snack-stand chips.
The menu sticks to bar basics: think burgers, sandwiches, and fries, with a short list of draft and canned beers, simple cocktails, and wine by the glass. Portions run bigger than you’d expect at a regional field this size, which matters when you’re flying out after a full ski day on the mountain. If you only have time for one thing, go for a burger or grilled sandwich and skip trying to build a meal from sides.
Hours flex with the bank of winter departures, so The Way Station usually opens ahead of the morning and midday ski runs to Denver and beyond, then tapers as the last flights board. In shoulder seasons, don’t count on late-evening service; the airport itself slows down fast once the final departure clears. If your flight is early, check airport timing and plan to eat here after security instead of at a gas station on the way.
There’s a small bar counter plus a limited number of tables, and things fill quickly around peak weekend departures to major hubs. On busy Saturdays in January and February, seats turn fastest at the bar, while families grab the four-top tables. If you’re in a group of four or more and flying a mid-morning bank, grab a table before you dive into menus.
Tip: HDN has few food options; if you want a proper meal with a beer before your winter flight, budget an extra 25–30 minutes after security and head straight for The Way Station before your gate area crowds up.
