Blue wheelchair symbols mark Accessible Parking right by the terminal

Accessible Parking at Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport sits directly next to the terminal buildings T1 and T2, so you roll or walk only a short distance to check-in. Bays are clearly signed with the standard blue wheelchair symbol and are on the same level as terminal access, so you avoid lifts or long ramps with luggage.

These spaces sit in the closest parking zones to T1 and T2, reducing transfer time to just a few minutes from car to departure hall. Surfaces are flat, with marked walkways between the parking rows and the automatic doors into the terminal, which helps if you use a cane, walker, or travel with kids and pushchairs.

Accessible bays are wider than regular spots and lined up near pedestrian crossings leading to both T1 and T2 entrances. That extra width gives room to fully open car doors or deploy a wheelchair ramp without worrying about hitting a neighbouring vehicle.

Parking here uses the standard airport payment system, with the same tariffs as nearby short-term and terminal parking. Machines are placed near the exits closest to the accessible rows, so you can pay before walking the few dozen metres back to your car, instead of detouring through the whole car park.

Entry follows the same barrier ticket or licence-plate recognition setup used across the HAM parking lots, and staff patrols cover the terminal-side areas where these bays sit. If you need extra assistance inside T1 or T2, call the airport’s mobility service line listed on signage by the accessible spaces.

Tip: Aim for arrival at least 2 hours before departure and give yourself 10 extra minutes to find an accessible bay close to the right terminal entrance, especially around morning and late-afternoon peaks.
