Advertised to 19:00, often dark by 16:30–17:00
Karl Jatho Lounge sits landside between Terminals A and B on the departures level at Hannover Airport, but frequent flyers report finding the door locked several hours before the posted 19:00 closing time. Official hours run 05:00–19:00 Monday to Saturday and 08:00–19:00 on Sundays, yet FlyerTalk regulars say it has “never been opened past 4 or 5pm” on repeated visits. Build that into your expectations if you have a late BA, AF, KL, SK, or Condor departure.
Landside setup and access rules
The lounge is landside, so you can enter before security regardless of whether you fly from A, B, or C, then clear security afterwards. Access is via Priority Pass, LoungeKey, airline invitations, or direct pay-in at the desk, and it functions as the default non-Lufthansa option for premium passengers on carriers like British Airways and Air France. There is a strict no-guest stance reported on FlyerTalk, with one poster describing a “real life lounge dragon” who rejects companions even for elites.
Food, drinks, and what to expect inside
Reviews on LoungeReview and Yelp call out very limited food: think packets of snacks, nuts, and maybe a small cold item rather than anything you would count as a meal. Drinks are stronger than the food offer, with complimentary soft drinks, beer, and basic house wine available, but there is no note of premium spirits or cocktails. Amenities run to TV screens, newspapers and magazines, flight information monitors, air conditioning, and standard seating; there are no showers or nap rooms listed anywhere.
How regulars actually use it
Frequent BA flyers posting since around 2013 say they largely skip Karl Jatho for late afternoon departures because the lounge is almost always shut despite schedules showing an evening close, sometimes previously advertised as late as 21:00. With guest access effectively zero, many elites plan to meet colleagues in the public departures area instead, then separate for security about 30–40 minutes before boarding. If you already cleared security in Terminal A, heading back landside just for this lounge usually does not pencil out.
Watch out for the tradeoffs
Pay-in access can sting if you arrive after 16:00 and find the door unexpectedly closed, so avoid prepaying through third parties for late-day visits. Staff get mixed reviews, with several comments using “strict” or “unfriendly” to describe interactions at the desk, especially around the no-guest rule. The common thread across LoungeReview, Yelp, and FlyerTalk: this room is only a small step up from the public terminal, mostly useful for a quiet drink and wifi before security.
Quick tip
If you want to try Karl Jatho Lounge, aim for a morning slot between 07:00 and 11:00, grab a drink and a seat, then leave at least 20 minutes for security in Terminal A, B, or C so you are still at your gate when boarding starts.
