Rides into central Guayaquil usually run under 25 minutes off-peak, while traffic toward Samborondón can stretch that to 35–40 minutes at rush hour.

All payments use cash in USD (Ecuador’s currency) and fares are per car, not per person, so two or three people splitting to the Malecón 2000 area often beat rideshare pricing. Most drivers speak at least basic airport-level English, unlike some rideshare drivers who operate Spanish-only, which matters if you’re sorting out an exact address at 01:30.

How to use Authorized Taxis step by step

• 1. After baggage claim in Terminal 1, exit through the main doors toward the public arrivals hall.
• 2. Walk straight about 30–40 meters to the official Authorized Taxi kiosk by the curbside lane.
• 3. Tell the attendant your destination (for example, “Hotel in Urdesa” or “Samborondón, Plaza Lagos area”) so they can assign the correct zone fare.
• 4. Confirm the printed US dollar price shown for your zone before accepting the slip or car assignment.
• 5. Follow the attendant to the marked yellow or white Authorized Taxi, which is usually parked within one or two car rows of the stand.
• 6. Pay the driver in cash at the end of the ride; small bills like $5 and $10 make this smoother.

For a smoother exit from GYE, keep your hotel address printed or on your phone screen and show it to both the kiosk attendant and the driver before the car leaves the curb.
