Most people saying “Star Alliance Lounge” at GRU mean the old T3 space
In Terminal 3 at São Paulo–Guarulhos (GRU), the name “Star Alliance Lounge” now usually points to the former alliance-branded space that carriers shifted into the Espaço Banco Safra Lounge in T3. FlyerTalk users say this is the current Star Alliance option for T3 departures, even though the branding changed.
This T3 lounge sits airside in the international departures area and is used by multiple Star Alliance airlines before long-haul flights to hubs like FRA, MUC, IAH, and EWR. Access rules vary by carrier and cabin, but the constant theme in reports is that the lounge room is small for the volume of Star traffic running through Terminal 3’s banked departures.
FlyerTalk reports call the lounge “tiny,” and one user mentioned waiting about 10 minutes at the door just to get in. When GRU’s evening waves to Europe and North America hit, the check-in desk sometimes throttles entry so the space does not overflow into the corridor. Build that into your timing if you’re on a 22:00–01:00 departure.
Despite the size, the lounge reportedly runs a fairly full hot and cold food spread plus a bar with cocktails, beer, and wine. Regulars mention it as better than grabbing a snack at the Terminal 3 gate areas but not something to plan a multi-hour stay around unless you really want a sit-down meal before a 10–12 hour flight.
Showers matter on overnight flights to Europe, and FlyerTalk users confirm at least one shower room in the T3 lounge. Capacity is limited, so put your name down as soon as you enter if you’re coming off a domestic connection or you’ve just done a long segment into GRU and have another red-eye ahead.
Wi‑Fi is available inside the lounge and is mentioned in user reviews as workable for email and basic browsing. Don’t count on heavy streaming with a full house, especially during the 19:00–23:00 rush when several T3 long-hauls board at once and every seat plus power outlet tends to be in use.
Priority Pass comes up often in reports: some FlyerTalk posts say it is only accepted during a limited overnight window, when airline premium traffic thins out. A few savvy passengers time their arrival into Terminal 3 around that slot to get in with Priority Pass when carriers aren’t filling every seat.
Practical tip: if you’re flying out of Terminal 3 on a Star Alliance carrier, head toward the Espaço Banco Safra Lounge right after clearing security, and check the door for current access rules and any Priority Pass overnight hours before committing to wait in line.
