Five minutes from T1 to the taxi stand
The official Taxi Genova rank sits directly outside T1 arrivals, about a 150–200 meter walk from the baggage claim doors. You exit customs, turn right, and follow the “Taxi” signs to the covered lane where cars queue in front of the terminal. Rides operate 24/7, with more cars around 07:00–10:00 and 17:00–20:00 when business and ferry traffic spikes.
Into central Genoa (Piazza De Ferrari or Brignole), Taxi Genova usually runs €20–€30 depending on traffic, luggage, and exact address, with rides taking around 15–25 minutes. To Genova Piazza Principe station, most rides come in closer to €20 and about 15 minutes in light traffic. Drivers use meters by law, so check the meter starts around the posted base fare when you pull away from T1.
Late-night arrivals after 22:00 often see a small surcharge, usually a few euros added to the daytime rate, and fares on Sundays or public holidays can run slightly higher too. If you’re heading to the cruise terminal at Stazione Marittima, plan on roughly €25–€35 and 20 minutes, longer if multiple ships are in port that day. Have your ship name and terminal number ready so the driver can pick the right entrance on the first try.
Most Taxi Genova cars accept cards, but several travelers still report paying cash in euros for shorter rides under €20. To avoid awkwardness, ask “carta di credito?” before you get in, or show your card; if they say no, just take the next taxi in the rank. ATMs sit inside T1 near the arrivals hall, about 50 meters from the exit doors, useful if you land without euros.
If you land during a ferry or cruise changeover, the taxi queue can stretch 10–15 minutes deep around midday. In that case, solo travelers sometimes team up at the rank and split a ride into town, turning a €25 fare into €12–€13 each. One practical tip: keep your hotel address ready on your phone in Italian format, including “Via” and street number, and show it to the driver as you get in to avoid any confusion with similar street names in Genoa’s old town.
