Five car hire desks sit just outside GOA Arrivals

The Car Rental Center at Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport sits about 100 meters in front of the T1 terminal exit, across the small access road and clearly signed “Autonoleggio.” All rental brands share this cluster of counters, so you don’t have to hunt around the terminal for different desks.

Most major companies here (think 5–7 brands at any given time) keep their counters open from roughly 08:00 to 23:00, though some smaller outfits shorten hours in winter, so late arrivals after 22:00 should double-check their booking confirmation. Desk staff usually speak Italian and English, and some also handle French because of traffic coming via the A10 from France.

Rental parking sits in a dedicated lot about a 2–3 minute walk from the counters, along a marked path in front of T1. Cars line up in numbered bays tied to each rental agency, so take a quick photo of the row number and license plate before leaving; it speeds up the return when you’re catching a flight home.

Daily rates at GOA often start around €35–€45 for a manual compact if booked 1–2 weeks ahead, and fuel here usually prices a few cents higher per liter than in the city. Many contracts from Genoa come with a 100–200 km daily limit at the cheapest tier, so check the odometer before heading down the A12 toward La Spezia or up into the Ligurian hills.

Most fleets at GOA lean heavily on small hatchbacks with 1.0–1.4L engines, which matters once you hit steep, narrow roads around Nervi or the SS1 Aurelia. Automatics cost about €10–€20 more per day and can sell out on summer weekends, so lock those in early if you don’t drive stick. GPS units still rent for around €8–€12 per day, but offline maps on your phone cover Liguria just fine.

Returns follow a one-way loop signed “Car Rental Return” off the airport access road, roughly 300 meters before the T1 departures drop-off. Build at least 20 extra minutes into your schedule for refueling along the SS1 or A10 and walking back from the rental lot, especially during July–August traffic.

Practical tip: Photograph every scratch during pickup under the lot’s overhead lights and make sure the existing damage sheet lists anything longer than 2 cm before you drive out of GOA.
