Two free drinks, 40 seats, and you might be turned away
The GAA Executive Lounge sits on the upper mezzanine (2nd floor) airside in the main terminal at GND, and once its roughly 40-person capacity is hit, even BA Club World and other business-class passengers report being refused at the door. It runs short daytime hours only, 08:00–16:00, so evening departures are out of luck.
Access is pay-in, via airline invitation, or through schemes like Mastercard Airport Experiences and Amex, but all of them note the same rule: maximum 3-hour stay and access may be restricted when busy. That 3-hour cap matters on banked departures, because the small space fills quickly after the main check-in window opens.
Alcohol policy is strict: complimentary drinks are limited to two local beers or two glasses of wine per person, and anything beyond that or any premium label is chargeable. Several flyers mention being caught out by the two-drink rule, expecting an open bar like larger hubs, so budget for bar spend if you plan a longer wait.
Food can be very light. Mastercard’s listing and LoungeReview both note that hot dishes have been suspended at times, leaving only snacks and cold items in the buffet. Regulars on forums describe it as “fairly basic,” more in line with a Priority Pass third-party lounge than a flagship carrier space, so do not rely on it for a full pre-flight meal.
Wi‑Fi is advertised, and both Mastercard and LoungeReview say the lounge has its own network, but there are no consistent user reports on speed or stability. If you need to upload a big deck before a 14:30 departure, treat the connection as a bonus rather than the backbone of your workday.
What regulars do: they eat properly at their hotel or in town, then arrive at the airport closer to departure and use the lounge mainly for a seat, air-conditioning and one or two drinks inside the 3-hour window. Some TripAdvisor posters suggest checking in on the early side, then heading straight upstairs after security to beat the capacity cap.
Watch out for the location: after security in the main departures hall, you have to go upstairs to the mezzanine to find the lounge, so add 5–10 minutes if you like to board at T‑15. Practical tip: if you see a queue at the door around midday, ask the staff about current capacity and the two-drink rule before burning an access swipe.
