Card-only riders stick with Uber when the taxi rank thins out

Uber runs at Glasgow Airport (GLA) around the clock, so you can usually get a car at 03:00 on a Monday as easily as at 15:00 on a Friday. Pickup is from Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, and you choose your exact door in the app. Fares into Glasgow city centre often land in the £20–£30 range, depending on time of day and surge.

Both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 sit off the same forecourt, about a 2–4 minute walk from baggage reclaim to the pickup points. Order your Uber after you collect bags in T1 domestic arrivals or clear customs in international arrivals to avoid making your driver loop the one-way system. The app pins you near the terminal, then lets you message the driver if they’re on the wrong level.

Expect surcharge spikes on Friday and Saturday evenings, especially 18:00–23:00, when flights from London and Europe bank into GLA. A standard UberX into the G1 postcode can jump from £22 to £40+ in that window. Late-night Sunday after 22:00 often drops closer to base rates again. Keep an eye on the price before you tap Confirm, because the taxi rank outside T1 departures sometimes undercuts a surged fare.

Uber is fully cashless here, charging your stored card or PayPal in GBP, which helps if you land without pounds on hand. You see the price estimate in the app before you leave Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, and you can screenshot it in case your expense team needs proof later. Seat count is shown clearly, so a family of four with two large suitcases fits better in an UberXL than a smaller UberX.

Here’s how to use Uber at GLA in under five minutes:

  • 1. After landing into Terminal 1 or 2, switch off airplane mode and open the Uber app.
  • 2. Set your pickup spot to “Glasgow Airport” and then confirm the terminal and door number the app suggests.
  • 3. Enter your exact destination postcode in Glasgow, Paisley, or further afield, then review the fare estimate.
  • 4. Choose UberX or UberXL based on luggage and group size, then tap Confirm.
  • 5. Walk to the signed rideshare pickup area by the terminal forecourt; check the registration plate and last three characters before getting in.

One last tip: order the car only once you’re actually landside in Terminal 1 or Terminal 2; if your bag gets delayed 15 minutes, your driver won’t have to cancel on you and trigger a fee.
