Cayman Bar

Frequent flyers barely mention Cayman Bar, which tells you a lot.

Post-security in T1 at Owen Roberts International (GCM), Cayman Bar sits in the small departure area where choices are limited and expectations are already low. Local Facebook regulars lump the gate-side food options together as “awful” and say to eat in town before heading to the airport. Assume this bar is part of that same cluster by the gates, more about killing 30–40 minutes with a drink than having a real meal.

Food pricing at similar GCM spots runs in the KYD 10–18 range for basic burgers, sandwiches, or wings, and there’s no sign Cayman Bar breaks that pattern. Figure on bar standards: frozen fries, simple grills, maybe a club sandwich or chicken tenders, with quality that tracks “airport generic” rather than local Cayman fare. If you want actual Caymanian food, Georgette’s and the local spots on Grand Cayman give you far better value than anything near the T1 gates.

Drinks are the safer play here, and a local beer like Caybrew or White Tip usually lands around KYD 5–7 at airport bars. A rum punch or simple mixed drink will run higher, especially with the typical 10–15% service charge you see across the island. Treat Cayman Bar like a place to grab one last cold drink before boarding, not the spot for your first conch fritters or best fish of the trip.

Biggest watch-out: once you clear security into T1’s departures side, you’re basically stuck with Cayman Bar and its neighbors until boarding starts at your GCM gate. If you care at all about food quality, eat in George Town or at your hotel, then arrive at the airport with time for just a quick drink. Tip: cap your tab at one round and bring a snack from town to cover the gap if your flight out of Owen Roberts runs late.
