Cave à Rhums
Gate A in FDF is rum territory, and Cave à Rhums is where you stock up before your flight leaves Martinique. This shop sits airside in Terminal A, after security, so you can buy bottles without hauling them through check-in queues. It focuses on Martinican rhum agricole, not generic Caribbean blends, so labels from local distilleries you just visited in town often show up here.
Prices run duty-free, so full-size bottles can come in noticeably cheaper than city supermarkets, especially on 1L formats and gift packs. You’ll see the usual big local names in the €20–€40 range, along with older vintages and single casks that climb well past €70. The store also stocks miniatures and 35–50cl bottles, which help if you’re connecting onward in Europe and want to stay lighter on luggage weight.
Staff usually speak French first, but you can expect enough English to talk through basic tasting notes and aging (think 3-year, 6-year, and 10-year tiers). They often have clear sections for blanc, ambré, and vieux, which makes it easier to compare styles quickly while watching your boarding time on the A-terminal screens. Non-rum items are limited to a few regional liqueurs and standard duty-free snacks, so this is mainly a spirits stop.
One practical tip: check your final destination’s alcohol allowance before paying, especially if you connect through another EU or UK airport, and keep the shop’s sealed duty-free bag and receipt handy for any extra security checks at the next transfer point.
