Metered cabs line up outside Door 5 at FAR

At Hector International Airport (FAR), the Taxi Queue sits just outside Door 5 on the arrivals level of Terminal 1, a short walk from baggage claim carousels 1–4. This is the only official metered taxi stand at the airport, and drivers pull in as flights arrive, so you usually see several cars waiting when a plane unloads.

Every cab in the Taxi Queue runs on a meter rather than flat zones, which helps for odd-hour arrivals or short hops under 5 miles into Fargo. You pay by distance and time, and fares start with a base drop on the meter, then add per-mile and per-minute charges set by local ordinance. Ask the driver for an estimated total to downtown Fargo (about 3 miles) before you pull away from Terminal 1.

The Taxi Queue operates to match flight schedules, so you typically find cars waiting from the first morning arrivals around 5:00–6:00 a.m. through the last inbound flights around 11:00 p.m. If you land on a very late diversion or after-hours charter into FAR, walk to the stand at Door 5 first; if it is empty, call one of the Fargo taxi companies posted on the information boards near baggage claim.

Taxis from the queue take all standard airport runs, including hotels along 19th Ave N and downtown Fargo addresses within about a 10–15 minute drive of Hector International. Most cars accept major credit cards along with cash; look for the card logos on the rear passenger window before loading bags, and tell the driver you plan to pay by card while still at Terminal 1.

For groups stepping off the same flight, the per-mile meter makes sharing one taxi to a downtown hotel noticeably cheaper than taking separate cars, especially on trips in the 3–8 mile range. Drivers load checked bags into the trunk at the curb, and larger sedans or minivans in the queue can usually handle 3–4 checked suitcases plus carry-ons from a full row off a single FAR arrival.

One practical tip: exit baggage claim, turn right, and walk directly to Door 5 before pulling out your phone for ride apps; if a metered cab is already in the Taxi Queue, you’re typically on the road to downtown Fargo in under 5 minutes from leaving the carousel.
