Route 16 hits FAR every 60 minutes on weekdays
MATBUS Route 16 is the only local bus that serves Hector International Airport (FAR) Terminal 1, running about every 60 minutes on weekdays. The stop sits near the terminal entrance on the public side, so this is an option before you head through security or after you exit baggage claim.
The route connects FAR with downtown Fargo transit hubs and other MATBUS routes, but only during regular service hours, which are weekday daytime and early evening. There is no late-night or 24-hour service, and weekend coverage can be limited or unavailable depending on the current MATBUS schedule, so check the exact timetable for Route 16 before you rely on it for an early flight.
Standard MATBUS fares on Route 16 match the rest of the system, so you’re paying a normal local bus price instead of airport premium pricing. Expect a flat fare in the few-dollar range, typically paid in cash on board or via MATBUS pass products, with free transfers to other MATBUS routes within the usual transfer window published by the agency.
Service uses regular city buses with front-door boarding and a single main aisle. Luggage space is whatever you can manage at your seat or in the legroom area, so one checked bag and one carry-on per person is about the practical limit during busier times. If you’re wrangling skis, bikes, or multiple large suitcases, a taxi or app ride from FAR Terminal 1 may be less of a hassle than trying to load everything onto Route 16.
Because Route 16 runs only about once per hour, missing a bus can cost you 60 minutes. Build the buffer: aim to catch a bus at least one full headway earlier than the last possible option that still gets you to Terminal 1 in time for airline check-in and security, especially for morning departures out of FAR.
