Gate-side duty free run before security splits at EDI
World Duty Free sits airside at Edinburgh Airport just after security, on the direct path to the main departures lounge and gates. You pretty much walk through it on the way to the A and B gates, so it’s an easy last stop for bottles or gifts without a detour.
Opening hours usually track the first and last departures of the day, roughly 04:00 until late evening, but earlier flights in summer can see it open closer to 03:30. If you have a 06:00 departure from EDI, you’ll find it trading by the time you clear security.
Liquor is the main draw: 1-litre bottles of mainstream whisky often run at duty free-only bundle prices, and you’ll see Scotland-heavy shelves with names like Glenfiddich, Glenmorangie, and local single malts. Multi-bottle promos change month to month, so check the promo tags before committing to a specific distillery.
Beauty and fragrance sit in the central aisles, with the usual big brands and travel-exclusive sets. Expect standard airport pricing: sometimes 10–20% under UK high street for larger sizes, not exactly a bargain on smaller 30 ml or 50 ml bottles. If you only want a quick lipstick or travel-sized skincare, head to the smaller counters near the walkway out.
Confectionery runs heavy on Toblerone, Cadbury, and shortbread tins branded “Edinburgh” or “Scotland,” usually in 2-for or 3-for deals. Single large Toblerone bars and Walkers shortbread tins pack big, so check your cabin bag allowance, especially on Ryanair or easyJet flights with strict one-bag rules.
Tip: Prices are fixed across the store, so pick up what you want as you walk in; you don’t need to hunt for a cheaper section deeper inside.
