The Whisky Shop at EDI: bottles you won’t see in Tesco
The Whisky Shop sits post-security in Edinburgh Airport’s main departures area, close enough to the central gates that you’ll pass it on most UK and European departures. It focuses almost entirely on Scotch, with a few other spirits pushed to the side. Expect prices that start around £35–£40 for entry-level single malts and climb into the hundreds for limited editions and distillery exclusives.
You’ll see plenty of big names here: Glenfiddich, Macallan, Highland Park, Talisker and the usual Islay suspects. The shelves also carry airport-only bottlings and gift packs with 3 x 5 cl miniatures, usually in the £15–£30 range, which work better for hand-luggage-only trips. Many boxes are already labelled with 1-litre or 70 cl sizes and ABV clearly marked, which helps if you’re tight on cabin bag space and liquid limits after a connecting flight.
Staff often offer small tasters of one or two open bottles, typically a mid-range Speyside or Islay expression in the £50–£80 bracket. If you care about age statements or cask types, ask directly; they usually know which releases are truly exclusive to EDI’s stock versus those you’ll see again landside in Glasgow or London. Standard supermarket malts here can run a few pounds cheaper than UK high-street prices, but some “specials” are just normal RRP with a duty free sticker.
For a quick browse before boarding, give yourself at least 10 minutes: enough time to compare prices against a phone search and still repack your liquids bag at the nearby seating area before heading to the gate screens.
