M&S Simply Food

M&S sandwiches here regularly beat the onboard buy-on-board options

M&S Simply Food at Edinburgh Airport sits landside in the main terminal, just before security, and runs early morning through late evening in line with most EDI departures. That matters if you land from the train or tram hungry and want real food before entering the security queue. Expect standard UK high-street pricing, not the inflated “airport menu” you see past security.

You get the usual M&S meal deal with sandwiches, wraps or salads plus a drink and snack, which often works out cheaper than a single hot item airside. Chilled sections carry sushi, fruit pots, and ready-to-eat salads, handy if you’re heading onto a 1–2 hour hop where the airline only sells snacks. There’s also a solid range of crisps and chocolate for under £2–£3 per item.

The store stocks multipacks, family-sized sandwiches and larger salads, which help if you’re traveling as a group out of gates 1–29 and want to avoid queuing again at the limited airside food court. You’ll also find small toiletries, travel-sized medicines, and bottled water in 500 ml and 1 L formats, good for longer Schengen or transatlantic flights once you clear security and refill later.

Biggest drawback: it’s landside, so you can’t pop back after security if your gate changes or delay hits. Buy only what you’re happy to carry through screening and onto the plane. Tip: grab food here before evening peaks; items like chicken, bacon and veggie sandwiches start to sell out after about 19:00 on busy days.
