Gate 4’s Escape Lounge beats Plaza Premium on hot food

Opposite Gate 4 on the lower level, Escape Lounge sits in the refurbished ex-Aspire space and regulars rate its hot options, especially the chicken dishes, ahead of the Plaza Premium / “Turkish” lounge at Edinburgh. It runs the old Aspire layout, so it feels familiar if you used that lounge earlier in the year.

Hours run roughly 04:00–22:00 daily, with a strict 3-hour stay limit before departure that EDI early birds build into 06:00–07:00 Ryanair and easyJet plans. If your flight leaves at 09:30, expect staff to turn you away before 06:30, even if the lounge looks half empty.

Access works on pre-booking or walk-in payment only as of 2026, with no Priority Pass or DragonPass accepted despite old signage and blog posts suggesting otherwise. BA status passengers still using the terminal usually walk past to the British Airways Lounge next door rather than paying here.

Walk-in pricing lands around £45–£49 for adults, so you need to eat and drink properly in that 3-hour cap to make the numbers feel reasonable. Tripadvisor reviewers regularly call out poor value for a 2–3 hour stay if you only grab one plate and a couple of drinks, especially when travelling as a pair.

Food is stronger on hot mains than on range: think a chicken dish, a couple of sides, soup, and basic pastries, not a full restaurant menu. Plaza Premium gets better comments on salads and cold bites, but frequent flyers still rate Escape’s hot trays as the better option before an evening flight.

The old Aspire footprint means window-side nooks go first, especially along the far side by the glass, and those spots usually vanish by about 07:15. Power outlets sit mostly along the walls and at a few high tables, so bring a charged battery if you plan to sit in the middle zones.

Peak crowds hit during the 07:00–09:00 and late-afternoon domestic and European banks, and FlyerTalk users report actual queues forming at the door during these waves. If your departure time lands around 08:00 or 17:30, expect a wait to get in and a louder room once inside.

Tip: If you can, book a 3-hour slot starting after 09:00 or between roughly 12:00–15:00, then head straight for the window seats on the left side as you enter before loading up on hot food early in your visit.
