Metered taxi

Flagfall starts around AED 5 when you hop in an RTA Taxi at Al Maktoum International (DWC)

RTA taxis queue right outside the arrivals hall at DWC, meters on, with a typical starting fare around AED 5 plus a per‑kilometre rate. Cars run 24/7, so landing on a 02:30 cargo‑heavy bank or a 15:00 leisure arrival makes no difference for availability. All official taxis are cream‑coloured with a coloured roof and an RTA logo, and the meter is visible near the dash.

A run from DWC to central Dubai districts like Downtown or Dubai Marina usually takes 35–45 minutes by road, depending on E11 traffic and how fast you clear immigration and bags. Expect the fare to land in the AED 120–180 range for those city areas, with higher totals if you are crossing town to Deira or Sharjah. Drivers generally take the main Sheikh Zayed Road route unless you ask for an alternate via E311 or other arterials.

Fares at DWC use the standard Dubai RTA tariff, which combines a base charge (around AED 5 from the airport) with a per‑kilometre component that often runs in the AED 2–3 band. There can be a small additional airport pickup fee added automatically on the meter, shown as a separate line when it starts. You can pay by cash in AED, and many cars now accept card or NFC, but not every single vehicle does.

RTA Taxi drivers usually speak basic English plus Arabic, Hindi, or Urdu, which covers most routing requests, especially to named hotels on Sheikh Zayed Road or big malls like Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates. If you are heading to a smaller hotel or an Airbnb in areas like JVC or Sports City, have the exact building name and a map pin ready on your phone so you can point to it if needed. That small prep can easily save 10–15 minutes of circling local streets.

There is no fixed limit on passenger count beyond vehicle capacity, but regular sedans are most comfortable for up to three adults with two large 23 kg checked bags and a couple of cabin‑size pieces. Larger groups with 4–5 adults and four or more full‑size suitcases often end up tight on space in a standard taxi and may wait a few extra minutes for an RTA van or larger SUV in the same official queue. Factor that into your post‑landing timing if you are catching a meeting or cruise check‑in.

Practical tip: screenshot your hotel or destination address in both English and Arabic before landing and show it to the driver at the rank; that usually gets you out of the airport and onto E11 within 5 minutes of reaching the taxi line.
