Ibn Battuta connection

40–60 minutes from DWC to the Metro via Ibn Battuta

DWC doesn’t have its own Dubai Metro station, so you ride a bus or taxi to Ibn Battuta, then switch to the Red Line. The terminal sits about 55 km from central Dubai, and most people budget 40–60 minutes to reach Ibn Battuta Mall, then another 35–45 minutes on the train to Deira, BurJuman, or Dubai Mall/Burj Khalifa stations.

The Dubai Metro Red Line runs roughly 05:00–00:00 on weekdays and past 01:00 on weekends, with trains every 4–7 minutes at peak hours. Fares use the Nol card system; a standard Silver Nol card costs around AED 25 to start (including credit), and a one-way trip from Ibn Battuta to central zones usually runs under AED 10. You tap in at the gates, keep the card for later trips, and tap out when you exit.

From DWC arrivals, taxis line up outside the terminal 24/7, and a metered cab to Ibn Battuta Mall typically lands in the AED 120–160 range depending on traffic and time of day. Travel time on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road or Emirates Road sits around 40–60 minutes in regular traffic. If you’re splitting a taxi among 2–3 people, this often beats private transfers on price while still feeding you straight into the Metro network.

At Ibn Battuta, the Metro station is directly linked to the mall, with clear signs pointing to “Metro Red Line” and separate entrances for Gold Class and standard cabins. Trains run northbound toward central Dubai and southbound toward Expo 2020 station; for Downtown, ride north to Dubai Mall/Burj Khalifa, for old Dubai go to Union or BurJuman, and for Dubai Marina keep your taxi and skip the Metro because Ibn Battuta already sits about 10 minutes from JBR and the Marina by cab.

For luggage, Red Line trains have a designated women-and-children cabin and one Gold Class cabin; the rest is standard class and can get crowded near Dubai Mall/Burj Khalifa and Union at rush hour between roughly 08:00–10:00 and 17:00–19:00. If you’re rolling two large checked bags, aim for off-peak times or pay the higher Gold Class fare for more space. Last northbound trains from Ibn Battuta usually leave after 23:30, but hours shift slightly during Ramadan and holidays.

Practical tip: Buy or top up your Nol card at Ibn Battuta before heading to the platform, and screenshot the Red Line map so you’re not guessing stops in a packed carriage after 22:00.
