Metered taxis line up 24/7 outside T1 and T2

After landing at Dublin Airport, the official taxi ranks sit directly outside the arrivals halls of both T1 and T2, with cars queuing around the clock. For most city centre trips, you’re looking at roughly 20–35 minutes by taxi depending on traffic and about €25–€40 on the meter. Ranks are signposted in the baggage hall and again as soon as you exit customs.

Every taxi uses a regulated meter with a starting fare a little over €4 and clear per‑kilometre and per‑minute rates set by Ireland’s National Transport Authority. You pay the driver directly at the end of the ride, usually by card or cash in euros; many taxis show contactless logos on the window. There’s no surge pricing like some app services, but late‑night or Sunday rates can push fares higher.

Taxis handle luggage well: a standard saloon easily fits two large checked bags plus cabin bags, and larger MPV taxis on the rank can take families or groups of 4–5 with several suitcases. If your hotel is in Dublin 1 or Dublin 2 postcodes, expect the driver to know it by name; for suburban areas like Clontarf or Dundrum, have the full Eircode ready to speed things up.

From the ranks to Heuston Station usually runs 25–40 minutes and around €30–€45, depending on the tunnel route and traffic on the M50 or city quays. Drivers choose routes in real time, but you can request the Dublin Port Tunnel specifically if you want to shave a few minutes off the peak‑hour trip, accepting the extra toll that lands on the meter.

All official airport taxis display a roof sign and a small yellow and blue licence plate on the front and rear; if a car doesn’t have both, skip it and walk back to the marked rank. You’re entitled to a printed or electronic receipt at the end of the ride, which helps if you need to expense a €30–€50 fare back to your company.

For arrivals between 23:00 and 06:00, build in a couple of extra minutes to find the rank if you land into a busy pier, but don’t stress about prebooking: just follow the “Taxi / Tacsaí” signs from T1 or T2 and join the queue closest to your arrivals hall to get a licensed cab in under 10–15 minutes most nights.
