Bus

Route 33A hits the northside suburbs before it ever sees tourists.

Go-Ahead Ireland 33A is a local bus that happens to serve Dublin Airport, mainly for people living along the Fingal and northside corridor rather than first‑time visitors. It runs between the airport and areas like Swords and Balbriggan, sharing territory with other northbound routes but with a stronger commuter focus. If your home or hotel is out along that strip rather than in Dublin city centre, this can cut out an extra change at T1 or T2.

The 33A stops at Zone 15 in the Dublin Airport bus park, outside both T1 and T2, so you’re landside and out of the terminal before you see it. Standard Dublin Bus/Leap Card fares apply, with short hops costing just a few euro and capped daily/weekly on Leap. It’s a regular low-floor city bus, not an airport coach, so you’re standing with locals and regular commuters, and luggage space is whatever you can manage near the pram/standing area.

Service frequency varies across the day, but you typically see a bus every 20–30 minutes in daytime, thinning out in evenings and on Sundays. Total ride time from the airport to stops around Swords or further north can range from about 15 minutes to 45 minutes, depending on distance and traffic on the R132 and surrounding roads. Timetables are posted at the Zone 15 stops and on Go‑Ahead Ireland’s own route listings, so check exact times if you’re flying late.

Because the 33A is angled at northside residents, it does not go into Dublin city centre; you’d use the 16, 41, 700, or 784 for that. The upside is fewer suitcase-trolleys and more predictable boarding at the airport, especially around the early‑morning commuter wave between about 07:00 and 09:00. Pay with a Leap Card or exact coins; drivers do not give change, and cash fares are slightly higher than Leap.

Practical tip: if you land in T1 or T2, allow a solid 15 minutes to walk out, follow signs to the bus park, reach Zone 15, and buy or top up a Leap Card at the machines in the arrivals hall before you head for the 33A stop.
