Two showers, status-only access, and a cut-down menu.
Qatar Airways Platinum and oneworld Emeralds get into Platinum Lounge South in the Main terminal, and many walk in expecting a clear jump from the Gold lounge that never really comes. Access is tied to status, not cabin, so you’ll see plenty of people coming off QR economy and regional flights around the midnight bank.
The lounge sits on the south side of the Main terminal near other Qatar spaces, airside after security, and keeps 24/7 hours to match QR’s overnight waves. It’s smaller than Al Mourjan, with seating that fills during the 23:00–02:00 peak, but it usually beats the Gold lounge for elbow room in the late morning lull.
Food runs on a QR-code à la carte system at your seat, with a shorter cooked menu than Al Mourjan but solid quality according to FlyerTalk reports. Expect a compact list: one or two pastas, a burger or similar main, a couple of Middle Eastern dishes, plus desserts, backed by a basic buffet with salads and a hot tray or two around mealtimes.
Drinks skew practical rather than showy: barista-style coffee, soft drinks, and standard spirits are poured from behind a counter near the center of the room. Don’t look for vintage labels; think house wine by the glass and basic beer, which is still a step up from grabbing a bottle of water at the gate in the Main terminal concourse.
The weak spot is the washrooms: the men’s side reportedly has just two shower rooms, and each cubicle only has a showerhead and bench, with no toilet or washbasin inside. That setup is a clear downgrade from Al Mourjan’s self-contained suites and can mean a wait during the 06:00–09:00 arrival push.
Regulars with the right card often eat and clean up in Al Mourjan or The Garden, then drop into Platinum Lounge South later just for a quieter seat and QR-code dining. Some on FlyerTalk even time their shower run around earlier connections at DOH, skipping these two cabins entirely if they’re transiting during the midnight rush.
Practical tip: if your Qatar Airways status also opens Al Mourjan, shower and have your main meal there first, then use Platinum Lounge South as a backup seating and work spot within the Main terminal once you’re within 90 minutes of your gate.
