The Air India Maharaja Lounge in Terminal 3 domestic (T3, near the Star Alliance gates) feels a notch above the generic contract lounges at Delhi, but regulars coming from hubs like Singapore or Tokyo say it still sits well below SQ or ANA standards. It primarily serves Star Alliance business-class and Star Alliance Gold passengers on T3 domestic flights, so you’ll mostly see AI metal on the FIDS.

Opening hours generally track the morning and late-evening bank of Air India departures from T3 domestic, with the space getting busiest in the 06:00–09:00 and 19:00–23:00 waves. Expect basic buffet counters with Indian hot dishes, simple sandwiches, and a small dessert section; think curry, rice, and dal rather than anything plated to order. Soft drinks, tea, and coffee are free, and there is usually a limited selection of alcoholic drinks behind the counter.

Location is airside in T3 domestic after security; count on 15–20 minutes from curb to lounge if check-in is smooth and security lines aren’t backed up to the escalators. Signage for Air India lounges appears shortly after security, with the Maharaja Lounge separated from the contract spaces used by Priority Pass and card programs. If you’re connecting off an international flight into T3, remember you’ll come through domestic security again before reaching the lounge.

Access rules on paper look straightforward: Air India and Star Alliance business-class passengers plus Star Alliance Gold on eligible T3 flights. In practice, FlyerTalk reports mention staff occasionally turning away some Star Alliance Golds at peak times, sometimes saying the lounge is only for specific AI flights or cabins. One Star Gold reported being admitted on an evening DEL–BOM while another on a similar timing was redirected toward a different T3 lounge.

Food and space draw mixed comments: several frequent flyers compare the setup unfavorably with major Star Alliance lounges at hubs like FRA or SIN, calling the buffet and seating “basic” rather than premium. Seating tends to be rows of armchairs and small tables, with power outlets that don’t reach every seat; bring a charged power bank if your gate is far from the central T3 charging hubs. Wi‑Fi typically uses the airport’s network, so factor in the OTP/sms login step if you don’t have an Indian number.

Regulars often pop in for a quick plate of hot food and one drink, then head back toward their actual gate area in T3, especially if they spot a quieter cluster of seats nearby on the way in. If you’re on a tight T3 domestic connection of under 50 minutes gate-to-gate, skip the lounge entirely and walk straight to boarding; queues at the central security checkpoint plus a 10-minute walk to a far gate can wipe out any benefit of a short visit.
