Gate-side option in Terminal 3 for last-minute buys
Kilimanjaro Duty Free sits airside in Terminal 3 at DAR, so you hit it after security and before the international gates. It’s one of the main stops in this terminal for liquor, perfume, and chocolates, and it stays open for most overnight departure banks that leave after 22:00. Stock isn’t huge by big-hub standards, but you can usually find major whisky labels, standard gin and vodka brands, and the usual Toblerone-style gifts.
Pricing runs better than downtown supermarkets on spirits, but not by a massive margin; think a few USD off a 1L bottle compared with city shops. Cigarettes and some cosmetics lines are duty free only, so those can be the better value. Local souvenirs show up here too: Zanzibar spice packs, Tanzania-branded T-shirts, and small carved animals, generally under USD 20 per item. If you want proper Makonde carvings or higher-end crafts, those are still better bought in town than in this shop.
Stock rotation can be slow at Julius Nyerere International, so always check production dates on chocolates and anything with cream liqueur, especially on late-night flights around 01:00–03:00. Staff usually quote prices in USD, but they also accept Tanzanian shillings and often cards; confirm card acceptance before loading up a basket. Bags are sealed for transit, which helps if you have another international leg.
Use Kilimanjaro Duty Free for sealed alcohol and branded gifts, then grab snacks and water from smaller convenience kiosks in Terminal 3 if you need immediate consumption items.
