Staff Parking Area

Permit only

Permit holders only use the Staff Parking Area at DAR

The Staff Parking Area at Julius Nyerere International Airport serves airport employees and authorized users and is not sold as public parking. Access runs on a permit-only system, so you need a valid airport-issued pass before you can enter or leave the lot. If you are flying from Terminals 1, 2, or 3 and do not have a staff permit, plan on using public passenger parking instead.

This staff lot sits on the airport grounds serving operations for all three terminals, but it functions separately from the public car parks closest to T1, T2, and T3. Security at the gate checks permits against vehicle or staff details, so borrowing a friend’s access or trying to tailgate through the barrier is a fast way to lose parking privileges. Treat this as operational infrastructure, not an overflow option when the regular lots feel busy.

The airport manages the Staff Parking Area under internal contracts and permits rather than day tickets or hourly rates. That means you cannot drive up, pull a standard parking ticket, and pay at a public machine on exit. If your airline, handling company, or concessionaire has not registered your plate or card with airport authorities in advance, assume you will be turned around at the entrance.

For passengers, the practical tip is simple: when you follow signs for parking at DAR, look for public car park directions by terminal number (1, 2, or 3) and ignore anything marked staff or permit only. Build a few extra minutes into your arrival time so you can circle once and confirm you are in the correct public lot before locking up and walking to check-in.
