T1

Gate-side in T1, Y Castell is the main food stop

Right in Cardiff T1’s departure lounge, Y Castell sits past security and catches most traffic heading to gates, so you’ll walk by it on the way to flights for Belfast, Edinburgh, and Amsterdam. It runs through the core flying day, roughly first departures to last evening waves, so you can count on it for breakfast, lunch, and a quick pre-boarding bite.

Menu is standard UK airport café-pub: hot breakfast rolls, burgers, sandwiches, and a few sit-down mains, usually in the £8–£15 range, with soft drinks and draught beer on tap. Expect bar service plus table seating, so factor in 20–30 minutes if you want a hot meal before a Ryanair or TUI departure. Card payments dominate, but they do take cash in pounds.

It’s the only full bar-style option inside T1 once you’ve cleared security, which makes it the de facto meet-up point for groups before flights to places like Dublin or Palma. There are several two- and four-top tables near the front, and a handful of plugs along the wall, but don’t bank on charging more than a phone while you sit.

Food quality and speed at Y Castell track typical UK regional-airport standards: solid enough if you have 40–60 minutes, not worth it if boarding starts in under 20. If your gate prints as “TBA” on the screens, grab a drink here, sit facing the main departures board, and move as soon as a gate number appears.
