Near gate security in T1, World Duty Free is your last stop for liquor and gifts.
World Duty Free sits airside in Terminal 1 at Cardiff (CWL), just after security and before you reach the main departure gates. This is the only duty-free shop in the terminal, so if you want tax-free spirits, perfume, or cosmetics, this is where you do it. It’s a straight walk from the single security checkpoint, so you won’t miss it on the way to the gates.
The store carries the usual big-name spirits and whisky, including UK and Welsh labels, often in 1-litre duty-free formats that undercut typical UK high-street prices by a noticeable margin. You’ll also see standard cartons of cigarettes and rolling tobacco behind the counter, following UK duty-free rules for travellers heading outside the UK. For non-drinkers, there are shelves of fragrance, skincare, and makeup from major brands, plus chocolate and sweets in gift-sized boxes.
Pricing is airport-style but not outrageous: expect spirits in the £15–£35 range for mainstream brands in larger bottles, with higher-end single malts and premium gin easily running £40–£70. Perfume and cosmetics track normal UK department-store pricing, with occasional “2 for” promos flagged on the shelf. Snacks and chocolate bundles (think 3-packs of Toblerone or family bags of Cadbury) usually sit under £10.
Liquids bought here are packed in the standard STEB security bag, so you can carry up to 100ml limits through any further security checks on connections within the UK or EU. Staff at the single checkout are used to explaining allowances for flights to the EU, US, and Middle East from CWL, which helps if you’re unsure what you’re allowed to bring.
Practical tip: buy your liquids and big gift boxes at World Duty Free after you clear security in T1, not landside, so everything is sealed correctly for hand luggage and onward connections.
