T1 $$$$ Post-security

Most days at CWL T1, this lounge feels half-empty

At Cardiff’s T1, 51° Executive Lounge sits airside after security, past duty free, and it usually stays far quieter than MAN or BHX Priority Pass spots. It’s a paid lounge (or card-access) in the $$$ bracket, so think upgrade from the main seating area, not a long-haul flagship.

The space is compact, with maybe a few dozen seats, and opens in line with morning departures and closes once the last scheduled flight goes. Several reviewers mention early closing on nights with only one late departure left, so don’t bank on it being open for a 21:30 straggler.

Food is a cold buffet only: sandwiches, pastries, crisps, and light snacks, described as “limited but adequate” for short‑haul. Don’t come here hungry expecting a hot meal; think pre‑flight nibble before a TUI hop to Spain, not dinner before a long‑haul. Kids still find enough to graze on, but picky eaters may struggle.

Drinks are self‑serve with tea, coffee machines, soft drinks, and a basic alcohol selection included in the entry price. You’re not getting a 20‑page cocktail list, but you can pour your own wine or beer without waiting at a bar. Fridges and counters are restocked periodically, but the line‑up rarely changes much during the day.

One nice touch: staff sometimes call flights by hand when certain seats can’t see the departure boards clearly. That’s been mentioned by more than one Google reviewer and helps in a lounge where sightlines to screens aren’t perfect and gates can be called late for regional flights.

Regulars time it so they arrive about 60–75 minutes before boarding, not three hours early, since the buffet doesn’t really rotate through new dishes. Tip: pick a seat near a screen and keep your boarding pass handy, then top up drinks once more before heading to your T1 gate.
