Rafael Nunez International Airport (CTG), Cartagena, Colombia, Domestic Terminal, 2nd floor, near gate 4

Upstairs in T1’s domestic area, this Avianca VIP Room trades space for calm.

This lounge sits in a secluded upstairs corner of Rafael Nuñez T1’s domestic side, above the main gate area, and regulars mostly use it as an escape from the crowded concourse seats. Access runs 04:00 to 22:00, matching early Avianca departures and late evening flights within Colombia. Entry works for Avianca Business Class, Star Alliance elites on Avianca and partners, and Priority Pass cardholders on domestic itineraries.

The room itself is small, more like an oversized waiting room than a flagship lounge, and reviews consistently call it “fine for a short wait” rather than a reason to reach CTG early. Seating is simple armchairs and tables dotted around one compact space, with power outlets limited enough that people still hunt for the one open socket near a wall. Compared with Avianca’s lounges in Bogotá (BOG) and Medellín (MDE), frequent flyers describe CTG’s domestic lounge as the tired cousin.

Food is the weak spot: think light snacks instead of meals, usually chips, cookies, small pastries, and maybe finger sandwiches during busier daytime banks. One FlyerTalk poster who grouped CTG with MDE and BOG mentioned that domestic lounges like this are “not worth arriving early for” because of the limited food, so eat in town or at a terminal café if you want something hot or substantial before your flight.

Drinks are better than the food but still basic. A YouTube reviewer found soft drinks and beer in the fridge during the morning, with liquor only showing up around 15:00 when staff brought out bottles for a simple self-serve bar. Expect standard Colombian beers, sodas, juice, coffee from a machine, and a few spirits later in the afternoon rather than a full cocktail setup.

The most annoying quirk: there are no toilets inside the lounge, and reviewers highlight this more than once. You have to step right outside to the public washrooms in the terminal, then come back up and re-enter, which means grabbing your boarding pass and keeping your Priority Pass or status credential handy in case staff are strict on re-entry. People doing quick work sessions dislike packing up every time nature calls.

Regulars with Star Alliance status or Priority Pass mostly treat the Avianca VIP Room as a quick stop for Wi‑Fi, a drink, and a quieter seat, then head back down closer to boarding so they are near their domestic gate and the public restrooms. Practical move: only bother going upstairs if you have at least 30 minutes to spare and have already eaten, then sit near the exit so restroom runs and boarding calls are painless.
