By T1 security at CRL, Paul is the reliable bakery stop
Right in Terminal T1 after security at Brussels South Charleroi, Paul is the airport branch of the French bakery chain you see across Belgium and France. It runs through the main daytime bank of flights, typically opening for early departures around 05:00 and staying open into the evening wave, so you can grab something both before a 06:30 low-cost hop or an after-work return.
Food is classic Paul: baguette sandwiches, croissants, pain au chocolat, quiches, and tarts lined up in the glass counter. Expect to pay roughly €5–€7 for a filled baguette and around €2–€3 for most pastries, which is standard airport pricing for CRL. Portions tend to be generous enough that one sandwich handles a short-haul flight to Spain or Italy without needing a second snack onboard.
Coffee here runs the usual espresso, cappuccino, and café crème range, with prices in the €2–€4 band depending on size. Staff can move a bit slowly in the morning rush when several Ryanair and Wizz departures cluster between 06:00 and 08:00, so budget a 10-minute queue if your boarding time is close. You can usually get drinks and food packed to go with napkins and basic cutlery if you want to eat at the gate.
Seating is limited to a few small tables near the counter in T1, and they fill fast before the 07:00 departures. Most people just grab a sandwich and coffee and head to gates 14–20, which are a short walk away through the main concourse. If you prefer something sweet, the fruit tarts and éclairs typically sit in the €3–€4 range and hold up fine if you carry them onto a 2–3 hour flight.
Tip: on peak days with several departures within 30 minutes, stop at Paul immediately after security in T1 before you check the gate screens; it’s quicker than backtracking once boarding starts.
