Gate-side caffeine fix in T1 before early Ryanair runs
Illy Caffè sits airside in Terminal T1 at Brussels South Charleroi Airport, a short walk from the main Ryanair gates. It focuses on Italian-style coffee rather than full meals, so think quick stop, not long sit-down. You’ll see the familiar red Illy branding as soon as you clear security for T1 departures.
Drinks run in the €3–€6 range for espresso, cappuccino, and latte, with a few soft drinks and bottled water around €2–€3. Food is mainly grab-and-go: pastries, small sandwiches, and sweet snacks suitable for a 2–3 hour flight rather than a full-day layover. Portions are on the small side, so plan to eat twice if you’re here for breakfast and have a late departure.
Coffee quality is consistent with other Illy outlets in Europe, using branded Illy beans and standard espresso machines. A straight espresso or macchiato tends to come out better than the larger milk drinks, which can run a bit cool when the line is long. If you care about taste over volume, stick to a double espresso or cappuccino instead of the biggest latte on the menu.
Most pastries arrive pre-baked, with croissants and pain au chocolat usually available from the first morning departures around 05:00. By mid-afternoon, the selection thins out, so don’t count on a specific pastry after 15:00. Sandwiches are wrapped and refrigerated; they work for a quick bite before a 2–3 hour hop to Spain or Italy but won’t impress as a main meal.
Seating is limited near the counter, and during peak T1 bank departures you may be standing with your coffee. Power outlets around nearby communal tables are occasionally free but get taken fast around the 06:00–08:00 wave. One simple tactic: order at Illy Caffè, then walk your drink 2–3 gates down to find a calmer seat and wait for boarding there.
