Only landside food at CHQ before security
Everest sits in T1 landside, before security, and it’s the one food option consistently mentioned for this side of Chania Airport. If you’re early for a flight, especially in late season when airside outlets scale back, this ends up as the default stop. Price tier is budget ($), and the setup is fast food / quick bites, so think counter service and self-seating rather than a long sit-down meal.
Being landside means Everest is usable both on arrival and departure, but once you pass security into T1 there are only airside outlets and you can’t come back. The airport guide lists Everest as the only named landside venue, with every other bar and café on the post-security side. That matters on late evenings and shoulder months, when several airside spots close early and your backup options shrink fast.
Food is basic fast fare: sandwiches, pastries, snacks and coffee, typically priced in the low single digits in euros for a pastry or drink. Treat it as “grab something to keep you going” rather than a destination meal. With the $ price tier, it undercuts most airside spots, so topping up here before walking to security can save a few euros, especially for families buying multiple waters and snacks.
The main complaint in airport guides: outside peak summer hours, food choices at CHQ thin out, and that includes this place. If you land late or check in for a 06:00 departure, expect limited fresh items and possibly just pre-packaged snacks at Everest. Don’t bank on specialty coffees or hot food during those off-peak windows; treat anything beyond a basic drink and pastry as a bonus, not a guarantee.
Tip: if you’re more than 90 minutes early and it’s late season, grab a drink and something light at Everest before heading through security, in case your gate area in T1 has only vending machines running.
