Terminal 1’s Maredo trades on its steakhouse name more than buzz

Maredo sits in Terminal 1 at Cologne Bonn Airport and shows up on all the official “where to eat” lists, but frequent CGN flyers talk far more about the bakery chains outside security. Think of it as a mid-range sit‑down option rather than a true destination steakhouse before your Eurowings or Lufthansa flight.

This is the same Maredo brand you see in German city centers, so the menu leans heavily on grilled beef, burgers, and standard sides. Expect airport pricing: mains typically run well above fast‑food level, and a steak plus drink can easily push past €25. That’s fine if you’ve got a long layover in Terminal 1 and want table service instead of another pretzel at the stand downstairs.

As with most Terminal 1 spots, opening hours track the morning and evening bank of departures, starting early for the 06:00–08:00 rush and staying open into the late flights. You can usually get a beer and something hot even on a 21:00 departure day. If you’re tight on time, skip the larger cuts and go for a burger or salad; the grill plates can run longer when the room fills.

Menu structure is predictable: several steak cuts by gram weight, at least one chicken option, plus fries, potato sides, and a couple of salads. Sauces and extras add a few euros each, so check the line items before you order a “full” plate. Vegetarian picks exist but are secondary; if you’re meat‑averse, the bakery and snack bars in Terminal 1 often make more sense at these prices.

Because reviews are thin, assume average chain quality rather than a special treat and plan based on schedule, not hype. One practical tip: if you only have about 40 minutes between arriving at a Schengen gate in Terminal 1 and boarding your next flight, grab something to go elsewhere and save Maredo for a longer stop on a future trip.
