12-minute walk from Terminal 1, L'Osteria is the chain option
L'Osteria sits landside in front of Cologne Bonn Airport Terminal 1, tied to the Moxy hotel complex, so you’re eating before security rather than at the gate. Figure 10–12 minutes on foot from the T1 check-in area if you don’t dawdle. It’s part of a German-Italian chain, so think standard pizza and pasta rather than a one-off local spot.
The headline item here is size: their signature pizzas are roughly 45 cm and spill over the plate, easily enough for two people who aren’t starving. Most mains run around the €12–€16 mark, which is decent value compared to airside snacks in T1 or T2 that creep past €6 for a basic sandwich. Portions are generous across the board, so one pizza plus a side salad can stretch for two.
Because it’s landside, L'Osteria works best if you’re overnighting at the Moxy or any of the other airport hotels within that cluster on Kennedystraße. You can eat a proper meal, then walk back to your room in under 5 minutes. If you’re flying out of Terminal 2 with an early Eurowings or Lufthansa departure, budget the walk back and security time carefully; T2 security at CGN can easily eat 20–30 minutes at peak.
Menu is standard chain Italian: margherita, salami, prosciutto e funghi, plus basic pastas like penne arrabbiata and spaghetti bolognese. Soft drinks sit around €3–€4, and a glass of house wine lands in the €5–€6 bracket. Splitting one large pizza and skipping starters keeps a sit-down meal near €15 per person, which is hard to beat inside the terminals.
One practical tip: if you have a same-day flight from Terminal 1, aim to be done eating at least 60 minutes before departure. That gives you 10 minutes to walk, 10–20 minutes to clear security, and still board a Ryanair or Eurowings flight from a T1 gate without stress.
