Pre-security bakery in Terminal 1 that usually moves faster
Kamps sits landside in Terminal 1, useful if you get dropped off early and want food before security. It’s a standard German bakery setup: glass counter, self-service drinks fridge, and a quick pay-and-go flow. Compared with other landside spots at CGN that back up badly in the morning wave, lines here usually thin out within 5–10 minutes.
You’ll find the usual Kamps staples: filled rolls with salami, cheese, or egg, sweet pastries, and pretzels. Expect most sandwiches to land around the €4–€6 mark, with basic coffee a bit under €4 depending on size. It’s practical if you want something more substantial than a chocolate bar but don’t want to sit down at a full restaurant in Terminal 1.
Quality is chain-bakery level: fresh enough if you hit it before the rush, a bit dry if you’re there late in the afternoon after the 15:00 lull. The pretzels and cheese rolls hold up best over the day. Coffee is serviceable, closer to petrol-station strength than specialty shop, but hot and ready in a couple of minutes.
Because Kamps is pre-security in Terminal 1, it works if your Lufthansa, Eurowings, or other T1 flight is still an hour or more away. Just keep a 20–25 minute buffer for security at CGN during peak times, especially for morning departures before 09:30. If your flight leaves from Terminal 2, factor in the walk and aim to clear security there instead of lingering too long here.
Tip: If you see a long queue at nearby landside cafés in Terminal 1, check Kamps first; if the line is under six people, you usually have your coffee and pastry in under 10 minutes and can head straight to security without clock-watching.
