Peak holiday weekends at CGK, the main lots do fill.
Overflow Parking Area is the backup option Soekarno–Hatta (CGK) rolls out when the regular Terminal 1, 2, or 3 car parks hit capacity. It opens as an event-only area, usually around big travel peaks like Lebaran or Christmas, and then closes again once demand drops. You won’t find much signage on normal days; this area typically appears in airport traffic updates or via staff redirecting cars at the entrance gates.
Access normally starts at the main tollgate approach to Terminals 1, 2, and 3, then security or parking staff redirect you toward the designated Overflow Parking Area for that period. Expect rates to be similar to the standard outdoor car parks, usually charged per hour with a capped daily rate in Indonesian rupiah (IDR). Because this is an event setup, exact pricing and payment options can change, so keep some cash and a working contactless card ready.
The airport does not publish a fixed map for Overflow Parking Area, and location can move between terminal zones depending on construction and peak traffic plans at CGK. In past events, the airport has used remote surface lots that require a shuttle or a short walk of at least 10–15 minutes to reach Terminal 1, 2, or 3 check-in areas. On days with heavy rain, that extra uncovered walk and Indonesia’s humidity matter, so pack an umbrella or light rain jacket in the car.
Because there are no reliable traveller reports, treat the Overflow Parking Area as basic outdoor parking: expect minimal shade, limited amenities, and potentially fewer CCTV cameras than the primary multi‑storey garages at Terminal 2 and 3. Don’t leave valuables in sight, and photograph your row and nearest sign before heading to the shuttle or walkway. The simple move that saves time: ask the first parking attendant you see exactly which terminal the overflow shuttle serves and how often it runs.
